Cadasta Foundation is delighted to announce the signing of a three year, £2 million grant agreement with the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

Cadasta Foundation is delighted to announce the signing of a three year, £2 million grant agreement with the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to expand and accelerate the documentation and safe storage of land and resource rights information via the Cadasta Platform and partner programs. This grant is generously funded by UK aid from the British people.

Property rights are the foundation for economic security and certainty for individuals and their local communities, but many populations around the world face unique challenges in capturing this data. The Cadasta Foundation’s mission is to support communities and citizens to directly capture and record evidence of their land and resource rights, and to post their evidence on a global platform that is secure, cost effective and transparent to all.

The Cadasta Foundation grant falls under the umbrella of the larger UK aid Land: Enhancing Governance for Economic Development (LEGEND) program. LEGEND aims to improve land rights protection, knowledge and information, and the quality of private sector investment. Cadasta Foundation will be working with the UK government and other LEGEND partners to provide an innovative, cost-effective global technology platform to support collection and management of land and resource rights data, including spatial data, while also respecting local cultures and protecting stakeholders’ data privacy and security.

The UK aid grant follows support provided by Omidyar Network, the philanthropic investment firm created by eBay Founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam.  Like the UK government, Omidyar Network works to find and support innovations that offer the opportunity to generate long-lasting social impact at scale.  Omidyar Network has committed up to US$4 million to Cadasta Foundation over three years to help fund the successful achievement of its mission.
